44:54
What is your greatest fundraising challenge?

45:06
Greatest fundraising challenge: New non profit and finding funds to help with operations so we can add a staff member or 2.

45:44
Funding for statewide efforts/projects

45:51
Virtual vs in-person

45:54
We work with grant funding - clearly matching our values to that of the grant provider in this changing space.

45:55
Replacing grants that have expired.

45:56
Since we are in a hospital setting and due to COVID, we were unable to have our vendor sales, which is our major fundraising source. This imnpacted 2020 & 2021. We are hoping that 2022 will bring better things!

45:58
Our organization is new to the area, also looking for operations funding.

45:59
finding funders who support technology needs for our organization

45:59
Finding values-aligned funders

46:02
The unknown of is grants will be renewed which makes planning challenging

46:18
Onboarding our new director of development but that will be a fun challenge!

46:23
Activating the Board to be ambassadors to getting us in the doors with future donors and corporate sponsors

46:37
Larger grants. Greetings from the hookup line.

46:43
General operations support

47:02
Securing grant funding.

47:14
Yes, general operation support.

47:14
I'm new to Second Harvest and working in the nonprofit world. I love it! Working to get to know the funders and acclimate to this new role.

47:24
Tennessee Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Assiciation is also a non-profit and we trying to better understand the process of grant writing and who we should be talking to.

47:28
Continuing to keep current donors energized and engaged in our mission and work

47:28
Managing expectations.

47:30
Finding new support/donors & thinking of innovative ways to fundraising that will capture people's attention.

47:31
Finding the time to complete cumbersome grant applications :)

47:32
Raising Capital along with maintaining operational.

47:33
Finding new granting opportunites

47:33
Funding for refugees and immigrants

47:37
open dates because

47:40
Greetings to all my friends back in Nashville! Greatest challenge is achieving a more balanced revenue stream.

47:44
Operating / Capacity-building support

47:53
Increasing monthly funding

47:54
Finding time to meet and talk/listen to our funders.

47:54
Thank you for hosting this webinar!

47:58
General operations support and larger donors!

47:59
It's my first year fundraising!

48:08
Meeting potential new donors since some people are still virtual.

48:12
Multi-year funding

48:13
Brand awareness. People don’t know who we are/what we do.

48:22
COVID triggered a lot of changes for funders, gen. ops. funding as always

48:24
2nd the operating/capacity building support!

48:30
I work for United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counites and my greatest challenge has been conducting workplace campaigns in an environment where we are still unable to actually get in front of our donors

48:39
Understanding what long-term funding looks like after a couple of unstable years.

48:43
Fundraising while also doing regular job duties!

48:47
Our org also has very ambitious projects for 2022 that will require additional staffing. Perception is also important because of the grassroots nature of our work. I am the ED of PATHE Peoples Alliance on Transit Housing and Employment

49:15
Thank you for this opportunity and workshop! You’re doing great!

49:16
Receiving funds for general operating costs rather than a specific project.

$50 million isn't an option? :)

01:10:47
Good day, This is Cathy at The Contributor, a one stop workforce/housing organization helping people experiencing homelessness reconnect to housing and the community. We have two looming challenges: 1) Awareness. Nashville has grown and so how do we help new folks understand what those guys selling papers on the corner are doing and 2) Growth. How do we budget sustainable growth for our rapidly growing housing/resources division.

01:11:30
For those of you interested in preparing for the grant process, email me! We are planning more of these sessions in 2022 for all size nonprofits

Recognizing that many nonprofits are doing wonderful work in providing direct services to help people, are there funders interested in advocacy and/or systems change?

01:13:48
Hi! I'm Don Pocek from the Nashville Steam Preservation Society http://www.nashvillesteam.org. We are the group that is restoring the Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis steam engine No. 576 that was located in Nashville's Centennial Park. We are doing historical preservation which is somewhat non-traditional to the other non-profits on this call.

01:14:40
I'm Michelle Thomas with the Nashville Repertory Theatre. We are the resident theatre company at TPAC

01:14:46
We work internationally and we find funders are more opt to give to local orgs and hyper local Nashville neighborhoods. We are located here, but don’t serve the local people here. Are there people who are open to help with funding international needs?

This is Alyssa Dituro at McNeilly Center for Children. We are hoping to know how the organizations are considering childcare and how it plays into the work that they do with those who work for them, but also how it impacts Nashville as a whole as a childcare desert at the moment? As a nonprofit facility, how can we help funders understand how critical our industry is as we look for funding?

01:29:18
Sorry I forgot about the pandemic part of the question. During the pandemic we switched all our grants to general operating support, recognizing that organizations' needs and the landscape are rapidly changing.

01:30:10
How important are Non-Profit partnership on a issue or project to you?

01:30:28
That's good to know about advocacy!

01:30:34
Do you normally look for organizations to partner with other organizations, or, do you look at how they stand alone?

01:31:46
joseph@maddoxfund.org

01:34:29
Do any of the funders support capital campaigns that incorporate land acquisition?Lethia, what tax credits are available at Regions bank that support financing for nonprofit work with marginalized communities ?

01:34:42
On that note though, are funders working at all to help facilitate conversations for organizations that are significantly duplicating services?

01:35:07
Can you speak to the intersection between sustainability and philanthropy? Recognizing that climate change exacerbates community need and impacts both nature and people, how do you as funders plan to address this global issue at a local level?

01:35:29
Yes, highlighting and amplifying Emerald Mitchell’s question on land acquisition!!

01:35:40
Thank you for that!

01:36:40
The Center for Effective Philanthropy interviewed 24 foundation leaders on general operating versus program funding. One quote from their report states:Most frequently, the majority of foundation leaders we interviewed focus their assessment of General Operating Support (GOS) at the level of the grantee organization. These leaders find that assessment at this level helps them gain a fuller picture of a grantee’s overall effectiveness. As one describes, “The unit of change for us is the nonprofit. We demonstrate a change in capacity with the trust that, by doing so, we’ll eventually get to systems change and equity outcomes over time.”

01:36:45
Thanks so much Corinne!

01:36:58
Just curious about your thoughts on this.

01:37:01
Amen!

01:37:06
Thank you for that!

Franko Hashiguchi with the Nashville Shakespeare Festival (NSF). We have teamed up with Kennie Playhouse Theatre, a black-owned theatre whose mission is explicitly to present black-written theatre with black actors. NSF has hired Kenny Dozier of KPT as our producer and work to use the full resources of NSF to elevate KPT and bring disparate communities together. This summer, we had both Shakespeare's 12TH NIGHT and August Wilson's JITNEY to our Summer Shakespeare 2021. This coming summer, we will do the same with Shakespeare's Cymbeline and August Wilson's GEM OF THE OCEAN. Both mainstage, done either in series or in repertory. More on Nashville Shakes, we are bringing a 5 person team of actors to schools, community centers, and a few public shows doing a choice of three plays. This would also include FREE productions and workshops to Title I schools. We are also expanding to offering it free or more highly discounted (we already keep our prices exceeding low as a way to increase accessibility to all) to community centers that serve a majority of low income students. If you are interested, hit us up. Education@nashvilleshakes.orghttps://www.nashvilleshakes.org/touring-shakespeare
